Inspired by Baroque-era silhouettes, 90’s Wong Kar-Wai films, and dance performances by Pina Bausch, Shuting’s 2nd year collection is an exploration of her identity. Shuting sees herself as one belonging to the world of Wong Kar-Wai’s films, composing herself with grace as would Pina, living out an elegant Baroque spirit. Reflecting upon her Chinese upbringing and European education, she wanted to create an aesthetic she terms, “Asian Baroque.” The result is a strong womenswear collection that features big-volume outerwear and sweet dresses, garments rendered in stark-contrast jacquards and hand-embellished with painted chiffon flowers.
